I don’t just write stories—I create worlds.
New York Times Bestselling Author.
Executive Producer. Cultural Architect. IP Visionary.

Tempest X is a New York Times bestselling author, screenwriter, and cultural storyteller whose work bridges history, imagination, and rebellion. Raised in Reading, PA, with roots spanning Black, Cherokee, German, and Irish ancestry, she fuses critical race theory with pop culture, jazz, and ancestral wisdom.
â
Her early work as a culture writer appeared in RESPECT., The Source, and HipHopSince1987, grounding her storytelling in the pulse of hip-hop, rebellion, and real-life narratives.
â
She co-wrote No Holes Barred (Black Privilege Publishing / Simon & Schuster), the forthcoming God Is a DJ with DJ Whoo Kid, and the upcoming novel HERE, a contemporary spiritual coming-of-age story developed at the Yale Writers’ Workshop.
â
Tempest is the co-creator and writer of Three Suns, set to star Emmy winner Joe Morton (Scandal), and of Leaked: WHOO Tales, developed with Kenan Thompson’s company, Artists for Artists. She also executive produces The Dunk!, a boundary-breaking game show co-produced with Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat, co-created by two-time Emmy and Academy Award winner Carl Reed and Emmy member Lisa Osinloye.
â
With Mandii B, media trailblazer and co-founder of her consulting company POWER IN IP, Tempest also co-created two unscripted series: a bold new dating social experiment and 30 & Thriving, both executive produced by The Bachelor EP Tim Harris. Through POWER IN IP, Tempest is building a legacy of creative sovereignty—developing original projects that turn radical ideas into valuable intellectual property and push culture forward.
â
A multidisciplinary force, she developed Surreal Love and The Madams of Montclair, collaborating with bold voices across film, television, and fine art. Her genre-spanning work has drawn attention from major studios, streamers, and A-list talent alike.
â
Tempest has partnered with 300 Entertainment, Republic Records, Primary Wave, SiriusXM, Red Bull, Revolt, Twitch, and SONY. She’s written for artists including Lil Wayne, French Montana, Ashanti, Naughty by Nature, and even the Miles Davis Band.
â
A former music executive, she brings both edge and intellect to every story. She was selected for the Disney x Hollywood Here #RaiseThePercentage initiative and contributed to the boundary-pushing anthology A Matter of Right, alongside Marvel’s Kieron Gillen.
â
She studied at the Yale Writers’ Workshop and the Harlem Dramatic Writers Workshop, founded by Eddie Pomerantz, and trained with literary and screenwriting luminaries including Trey Ellis (Platitudes, The Tuskegee Airmen), Jesmyn Ward (Salvage the Bones, Sing, Unburied), Amanda Johnson-Zetterström (YOU, Netflix’s psychological thriller), and Julia Phillips (Disappearing Earth, a finalist for the National Book Award).
â
Tempest X doesn’t just tell stories—she builds worlds, sparks movements, and turns radical imagination into undeniable IP. Her mission is to ensure Black stories, and stories of outcasts, aren’t just seen but owned.
â
When she’s not building empires, she’s devouring scripts, listening to David Bowie, or plotting revolution in her journal. Tempest lives in Newark, NJ, with her amazing husband and their three dogs: Poe (named after Edgar Allan), Lilly (after the Munsters character), and Atia—Queen of the Julii.
